Jen Simone
Violin
As a longtime professional violinist and session musician, I’ve contributed to recordings and performances for just about every genre and occasion. No matter where I am or what I’m playing, I always bring depth, versatility, and joy to every project. More importantly, I love collaborating with performers and creatives from all walks of life.
Although I was born in Los Angeles, I grew up near Chicago, where I studied music and played in orchestras all throughout my childhood and teen years. I went on to complete my Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from Northwestern University and continued my post-grad journey as a freelance violinist in Seattle, Washington. As a full-time musician throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, I worked steadily in the studio on film soundtracks, TV commercials, and video games.
Today, as a proud Angeleno for over 11 years, I’m busy and thriving as an independent contractor with an eclectic professional network on stage and in the studio.
I’ve enjoyed performing with a wide range of touring artists such as Michael Bublé, Cat Power, Cold War Kids, Perry Farrell, Ariana Grande, Josh Groban, IL Volo, Moody Blues, Smokey Robinson, Rod Stewart, Tomberlin, Troye Sivan, and Kamasi Washington.
In addition to cultivating an ever-growing roster of private students in the LA metro area, I’ve continued playing on soundtracks for film and commercials. Recent TV appearances include Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Today Show.
Teaching violin or viola has brought me so much joy over the years. As an instructor, I am much more interested in process rather than product, and I pride myself on building relationships with students of all ages and backgrounds. In addition to a private studio, I also have experience teaching in schools and coaching youth orchestras. Along with technical expertise, being patient and maintaining a kind demeanor (and a sense of humor!) is very important to me when working with students. While the tactile nature of in-person lessons is always helpful, I’m also very comfortable and effective when it comes to virtual instruction onscreen.
