First Violin
Ms. Harman, a native Californian, received her Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from the University of Southern California (USC). Studying with Eudice Shapiro, she was also a teaching assistant and a member of the USC Graduate Quartet. Her Bachelor’s degree in music, studying with Stefan Krayk, was received from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She received an additional postgraduate Specialist Degree in Violin Performance from the University of Michigan, where she studied with Camilla Wicks. Other teachers have included Emmanuel Zetlin and Zvi Zeitlin. She held concertmaster and principal positions, received awards for orchestra, quartet, chamber music and Pi Kappa Lambda. Currently, she plays in the Pasadena Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay, Orchestra Santa Monica, film industry recordings, musical theater shows, plus a variety of other performing groups including chamber music and solo performances.
Harman teaches at California Institute of Technology (CalTech) as part of their chamber music program plus is called regularly to adjudicate for string competitions in the area. In addition, she is a passionate worship violinist with the Pasadena International House of Prayer (PIHOP) and HRock Church. Past professional experience includes playing with the Los Angeles Opera, Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra, Los Angeles Master Chorale Sinfonia, nine years with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (Norway) with Mariss Jansons and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra with Iona Brown.
Harman has held concertmaster positions with the Des Moines Metro Opera, Ann Arbor Chamber Orchestra, National Symphony of Colombia (Assoc.) and principal positions with Bogota Philharmonic and Lansing Symphony. She has participated and taught in numerous music festivals including those of the Gold Coast Chamber Music Festival, Sierra Summer Festival, Salzburg, BBC Proms, Schleswig-Holstein, Bergen, Interlochen, L.A. Philharmonic Institute (Assoc.CM) and Ojai where she was a guest artist with the Kronos Quartet.
