Marley Eder
Flute/Piccolo
Marley Eder leads a multifaceted career as a performer and educator in Los Angeles. His orchestral career includes serving as 2nd flute/piccolo of Symphony San Jose and regularly freelancing with orchestras including the Las Vegas Philharmonic, Orchestra Santa Monica, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, with which he has performed in over 80 concerts in the past 3 years. Additionally, he has performed with the San Francisco Symphony and the London Symphony Orchestra, where he filled in on same-day notice to cover 2nd flute under Sir Simon Rattle during their North American tour in 2022.
A prize winner in numerous national and international competitions, Eder was awarded 1st prize in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA,) San Diego Flute Guild, and Louisiana Flute Society Young Artist competitions, as well as 2nd prize in the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition (NFA,) and Myrna Brown Artist Competition. As a result of reaching the semi-finals in the Nielsen International Flute Competition in 2019, he performed C.P.E. Bach’s Flute Concerto with members of the Odense Symphony (Denmark) on Medici TV.
An active teacher, Eder is currently on the faculties of Santa Monica College, Glendale Community College, and the Young Musician Foundation. He has also spent the past 4 summers serving as visiting faculty for the Northern California Flute Camp. He completed his Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Southern California where he held a position as a student instructor, and received his previous degrees from the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas (BM) and Louisiana State University (MM). His principal teachers are Jim Walker, Marianne Gedigian, Katherine Kemler, Anne Zentner, and Rosy Sackstein.
