PYSO Prelude Strings Conductor
Kyle Smith began playing the trumpet in fifth grade under the direction of Jack Taylor. Upon graduating from Temple City High School, he attended California State University, Fullerton, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and with University Honors. Since 2017, Kyle has been the Band Director in the Temple City Unified School District for the elementary schools and Oak Avenue Intermediate School, as well as the Intermediate Orchestra Director at Oak Ave. Prior to that, he taught Band and Orchestra for grades 7-12 in the La Cañada Unified School District. He is also a member of the teaching staff at Bellis Music Camp, which is a week-long camp held each summer in the Angeles National Forest dedicated to musical and social development of middle school students. He has enjoyed being a conductor with the esteemed Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestras since 2012, formerly for the All-City Orchestra, and presently for the Prelude Strings.
