EDUCATION & EVENTS INTERN

Description

The Pasadena Symphony and POPs is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Education and Events Intern to support its community outreach, educational programs, donor relations, and events during summer 2025. This internship is ideal for students who passionate about music, arts education, and nonprofit fundraising, who are looking to gain hands-on experience in the operations and administration of a leading arts and culture nonprofit in Los Angeles County. The intern will work approximately 25 hours per week from June through September 2025.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Education and Events Intern role will have excellent organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, strong written and spoken communication skills, and a passion for and a strong passion for music and arts education. The candidate should work well in a team environment, collaborating with staff, musicians, educators, and donors, and be capable of conducting basic research. The intern should be creative and solution-oriented with a willingness to contribute new ideas and with the adaptability to handle challenges as they arise. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) required and experience with CRM systems (Patron Manager) a plus. Experience in public-facing roles and comfort with email and telephone communications would be helpful but are not required to execute the duties of this position.

The Pasadena Symphony and POPS (PSA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1928 with a mission to provide musical concerts of the highest quality, ranging from orchestral performances to world-renowned artists in recital, and to provide the broadest access to youth education programs and the performing arts through community engagement.   PSA has evolved into a nationally recognized and celebrated orchestra, comprised of gifted musicians with extensive credits in the film, television, recording, and orchestral industries; our musicians are among the most heard in the world. In addition to showcasing classical and contemporary musicians and works, we provide enriching educational programs for over 800 students through the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestras.

VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION & TRAINING

We provide periodic orientation and training sessions to our volunteers as needed.

CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Concert Staff Volunteers

  • Venue Assistants are primarily energetic and enthusiastic high school and college students who assist in light venue setup and in welcoming our summer POPS concert attendees to our home at LA County Arboretum by helping them carry their picnic baskets from the automobile drop off point to their tables (these volunteers must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds).
  • Greeters are an important component of our overall public presence year round and are responsible for handing out programs, answering general questions and providing a friendly and enthusiastic presence at all of our public events.
  • Ticket Takers and Ushers are a key part of our Summer POPS concert series and are responsible for taking tickets at the entrance to the venue and directing patrons to their seats, accurately and graciously.

Development & Outreach Volunteers

Development and Outreach Volunteers assist in the implementation of our development programs including involvement with special events and audience outreach.

Marketing Table Volunteers

Marketing Table Volunteers assist in promoting Pasadena Symphony and POPS programs at public events. They assist in answering questions about upcoming programs, events and ticket offers and assist in selling concert related souvenirs as needed.

Youth Program Volunteers

Musical Instrument Petting Zoo Volunteers – An essential part of our education and outreach efforts, volunteers assist in the set-up and oversight of musical instruments displayed for an interactive educational experience for children of all ages. Volunteers must have an interest and willingness to work with young children and parents. Knowledge of a musical instrument or instruments is helpful but not essential. A very fun and exciting volunteer experience.
